Trip Summary

a couple of hectic weeks since returning from Guangzhou.

had a couple of meet-ups over my birthday.
mr ma, sweet as ever, delivered a cake. And i also met d gals at Pasta de Waraku at Central, followed by a few drinks (and lotsa gossips & catching up) at Helipad. Ling returned from Korea with Faceshop masks, chocs, lapel pin from Jeju's teddy bear museum for everyone, and my ginseng powder! at $100 for 100g, i must (try to) religiously consume it.

after avenging my disappointed soul with a couple of (expensive) sprees, i've finally managed to upload most of d pix for d trip from our digicams.
whilst those on film are.. er.. still sitting nicely on my table awaiting my lazy bum to proceed for development. oops.

till then, here are d links to d pix...

The Proposal

Never expected him to do it,
but he did.

it was a Sunday and long weekend, so it was especially crowded that day with a long queue for the gondola rides.
but he actually booked the entire canal, such that we were the only ones with a gondola. he conspired with the gondolier, who ushered me onto the gondola first. then he was saying "ladies first" but his friend's wife suddenly paused on the steps and took out her camera. i didn't really suspect anything as i thought she merely wanted to take a photo of the lush gondola with nice red padded seats. it was really pretty.

then once i sat down, he propped out the Cartier ring box and went on his knees.
i was totally stunned.

the funny part was that i was too occupied with wiping my tears and picking myself out of the shock, i forgot to accept or reject him.
he mumbled "快一点,很多人在看嘞". LOL.
everyone clapped and whistled. so embarrassing, but it was really memorable and i'm glad he did propose afterall. redface.gif

Back in Town

yes, i'm back in town and back at work (sadly).
touched down yesterday morning, unpacked a little and caught up with some sleep before headed to work.

not as tired as i thought i'd be,
but my left leg's hurting quite badly since the 6th day of the trip.
too much walking coupled with cold weather, i guess.

pictures, updates all coming up soon!

so dear friends, please mark ur calendars for our big day:

despite the mad rush and confusion at HDB this afternoon,
finally, it's another load off my overloaded brain.
i now have lotsa free memory to process information on Guangzhou - Zhuhai -Macau!!

for now, i shall get back to packing my bags first.

Wedding Speeches: The light-hearted versions

obviously surfing the net (too much) for wedding tips and guides,
i came across these amusing lines which certainly brightened up my dull afternoon at work
i.e. apart from the Sydney power outage. bla.

humorous Wedding Speeches

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen - First, I'd like to inform you that my bride has vetted this speech, so if you consider any of the material inappropriate, it's her fault.

This is a very important day for me – second only to my stag night – so I’m sure you’ll understand if I seem a little nervous. After all, it’s only natural, marriage is a pretty big step … and these days you have to be careful what you step into.

I would like to thank Linda's parents for everything they have done and for welcoming me so openly into their family. Although I was a bit worried at first. When I asked Alan for Linda’s hand in marriage he told me to leave my name and number and said he’d call me if nothing better turned up.

I feel very fortunate to be marrying Linda and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity of giving her everything she deserved … beautiful flowers and a wonderful white wedding car, so I hope you’ve all enjoyed the day as much as my credit card company has.

Thanking the Parents

This seems to me to be an appropriate moment to thank my mother and father for being such splendid parents to me. I only hope that Linda and I make as good a job of our married life as they have of theirs. And that all our children are as perfect as I am.

or

And now onto my parents. I’d like to congratulate you on raising such an excellent, handsome and over performing son, without whom this day wouldn’t be possible.

Thanking the Best man

Finally, I need to thank my best man. Every bridegroom needs a best man he can totally rely on, somebody organised, who can take charge and make the day run smoothly – a person who is very serious and responsible. But what do you do if you don’t know anybody like that? Well, in my case I picked Jason.

or

I’d like to thank Jason, my best man, who's been a great friend for a long time. Depending on how incriminating his speech is, we might even stay friends.

or, worse still,

Jason and I go way back, and he’s always been there for me. I remember when I lost my job, Jason was there. When I broke my arm, Jason was there. And when I crashed my one-and-only car, Jason was there. In fact, come to think about it, Jason - you're a jinx!

and this, is strictly to be kept from the Groom's eyes

Now that I am married, I have some catching up do in domestic matters. I must learn how to paint a house, mow a lawn, dig a garden, but I am sure that after a year or two of watching how Linda does these things, I’ll get the idea.

yes, we are her doctors (self-acclaimed) and we've come up with a process flow for her when baby is going to poot out!

when tummy aches...
1) Call Dr Kok, so that she can prepare to send Boon to hospital
- Try calling cab, otherwise activate Dr Kok
- If cannot reach Dr Kok, activate Dr Ong
2) Once on cab - SMS all the doctors
3) When delivered - SMS all the doctors again

simple right!
we are so smart *smirks*

can't wait for Baby Boon's arrival!

Bridal Shops: Browsing and Fitting

in order to have a better idea of what to pick when we arrive at the Bridal Shop in Taiwan for our photo shoot, we were out to try out some gowns on Monday.

when we started of with browsing of gowns, mr ma seemed pretty restless and his responses were summed up to "ok" and "not bad".
hmm.. i wonder if it's got anything to do with waking up early in the morning.

in any case, after a long chat with the shop owner, we finally got down to actual fitting.
i got a little frustrated with his nonchalant mumblings, and got him to help take note of the suitable cutting and colors (and prevent me from falling into a dizzy impulsive wedding spree).

i must really give him credit for being very helpful afterwards.

he gave rational feedback such as:
- ivory color doesn't suit me as much as white
because it makes me look yellow. erm..
- basque or corset styled gown enhances my curvatures
because i'm rather petite, and most dresses just make me look like Bananas in Pajamas

below are some of the styles that we have shortlisted (i've re-created them with a online tool), mostly incorporating sweetheart necklines, as suggested by mr ma.

perhaps, also a short dress for some casual pictures during the outdoor shoot?

i noticed that during the fittings, he seemed to have a preference for V-neck sheath/empire dresses (see illustration below) but didn't have a chance to try on any, but i'll definitely give it a try the next time we head to the bridal shops. promise!
